I hope you mean mystical inspiration as in: My best friend called me at midnight on November first in a big freakin' panic 'cause she's got nothing, NOTHING! And she's the one that talked me into this!

Expect the call, shrew, expect it.

Well, I am even afraid to confess to you all that I too will try it!

My big problem, if you all did not notice it already, is that I donít feel confident writing in English, but am not immersed in Portuguese enough to still manage the language to the degree I feel I need to write in it. Anyway, I am writing it in English against all my internal editorís screams that I should not even bother. (I keep telling myself, what are proofreaders for if not to check my spelling and grammar?)

I am so nervous about this you all would not believe. To make things even harder, my husband has not been very supportive (which has surprised me, as he is usually behind any crazy idea I have), but I am going to give it a try anyway.

And, yes, I do have a plot quite well developed in my head. It has been brewing for a while, I even gave it a try not long ago, but abandoned it because of that same internal editor I mentioned earlier. Now I want to see if I can make those thoughts materialize into ink I can smell on paper I can touchÖ I cannot wait!

Actually, setara, I hadn't noticed. I think it's great that you're going to try out NaNoWriMo and even cooler that you're doing so in your second or third language with a thread of a plot. Now that's ambition!

My plan, so far, since I've got nothing, is to just start writing on November 1st and see where I end up. I keep repeating to myself that a NaNoWriMo novel is supposed to be total crap just so I won't criticize myself right out of doing anything. My internal editor is my worst enemy.

I signed up a few weeks ago. Like Setara, I haven't really been admitting this publicly.

I have a bunch of notes on characters and the setting, and a fairly good idea of where the plot is going to wind up. Now I'm worried that I'm a bit over-prepared and taking it all too seriously, and that come November 1st I'll sit down and all those ideas will look worthless and I'll say screw it.

I have a back-up plan. My kid has kindly offered to let me borrow her "killer woodpeckers" - the villianous stars of all her stories.

Kidnapped by ninja monkey pirates and rescued by friendly penguins, only to be mortally wounded by a killer woodpecker?

Kidnapped by pirate ninja monkeys and mortally wounded by killer woodpeckers is good... hee!

voiceofreason, you must know that I've been itching to write some permutation of that sentence since I first read your "kidnapped by pirates" post. I tried to resist, really I did... but I just... Couldn't... Stop myself!

Yes, Catness, I am expecting the call. Mr. Shrew just installed the phone by the computer, so I'll be waiting for it. Maybe I'll get Mr. Shrew to do a nice trumpet blast to make the event seem adequately mystical. Or something. Heh. And in turn, you can count on receiving a call that goes like this: "My plot just evaporated into thin air, and I'm only on page 32... I've had three pots of coffee and a bagel since 6pm, and it's all your fault, so you'd better come up with a way for The Magic Bat of Balthazar and Edward the Penguin to drive a Ford Escort to Peoria in a snowstorm. Well...?"

shrew, you know I'll just advise you as I always do--in any situation--drink more coffee! Coffee makes everything better, and faster.

A trumpet? Have you gone all Theosophical on me now? Heh.

hula, I think the killer woodpeckers should be from outer space. Killer woodpeckers from outer space with plasma guns!

Nah, I'm not getting Theosophical on you... the image I had was a bit more Monty Python than that. Besides, thinking over the instruments in our house, guitar seemed too modern, keyboards too Evangelical, and bongos too faux-Beat-poet. So that leaves me with the trumpet sitting on top of our bookcase. heh.

Now there's a scene that might find its way into my NaNoWriMo novel. Not that it will be related to anything, of course. What was that you said about a dream sequence?

I considering doing this, is it too late to sign up?

And are you people still planning to have lives? Not social lives, obviously, but like work/sleep/eating kind of lives?

Signups close on the 31st, I think. And, having been on-track to finish through half the month last year- well, yeah, I went to work, and slept almost a healthy amount. I didn't work tremendously hard at the generally accepted tasks of my job, and I dreamed in text, but... ah, go on. Do it. It'll be fun.
