I just ... got confirmation that I'll be teaching literature courses at my local university this autumn! Which, given that I have no actual teaching experience, is both very exciting and rather daunting! Basically, I pitched them the ideas I had without really thinking they'd say yes (certainly not to all of them) but my proposal must have been convincing enough. The courses are part of the adult education leisure programme, ie they're more for fun (though people can get credit for doing them to put towards a qualification, if they want).

The two courses I'm going to offer first are on The Works of Muriel Spark and The Queens of Crime (Christie, Sayers, Allingham, etc). Of course I have to get a minimum of people to sign up for them to go ahead ... so I'll have to try to publicise them as much as possible. If anyone has any tips on teaching or publicising courses, I'd receive them gratefully!

Promethea, I wish I lived near you - I'd love to take a course on The Queens of Crime. Are you including Ngaio Marsh?

I just...found out I have Lyme disease. I caught it early, thanks to a bee-u-ti-ful, textbook bullseye rash on my left thigh, so I've started the month-long antibiotic treatment in good time, but I'm still a little freaked. Plus achey in joints I didn't know I had - did you guys know that you have joints between your ribs? Ow.

Congratulations, nanamik! That's awesome.
Thanks LaSalleUGirl.

I just got a phone call from someone that I sent my resume into. The message I received said he wanted to schedule an interview. However, when I called him back, he told me that I did not have the necessary experience. Then why bother to call me.

Yeah, Mistral, though not quite as much as the others - think we'll do A Surfeit Of Lampreys as that is my favourite of NM's.

And ow!

My home is on a private well. We just found out that the water is not safe for drinking, brushing teeth or cleaning dishes and that we have to buy a UV disinfectant system.

Ahh, the joys of country living.

Thanks, nanamik! I don't feel older or anything- I don't think I've ever had a "traumatic" birthday, though my thirtieth was unpleasant because of a migraine and asthma attack. This one was celebrated with an ice cream sundae at work and pizza and white chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake at dinner.

I just ... got asked out by a DOCTOR. I feel like a Chalet School girl at last (and he was crazy tall, too).

[a two in one!]

...pretty much finished restoring a 1985 Jeep CJ7 with my boyfriend, at least enough to be driving it daily (one thing I learned is, you are never really finished with your Jeep). It's my new car. It was so much fun doing this together, and I'm proud of everything I learned.

...subsequently learned to drive a stick shift! I know, I'm a dork, but what can I say, this is the first manual transmission car I've owned. I'm so excited, I can even be trusted all by myself now! :p I still screw up a little but I am able to recover calmly, and I know I'll get it down.
